Big Truths For Little Ears — Book One. A picture book for kids who get scared at bedtime, written to go with the Fear Less Pillowcase.

Bedtime is where fear shows up loudest.

Some nights it's an upset tummy that came out of nowhere. Some nights it's the shadow on the wall that suddenly looks like something. Some nights it's the worried thoughts that won't stop, the imagined monster, the fear of being the only one awake in the house. Different night, different fear.

So we wrote Sleeping FearLess for that.

It's a children's picture book that walks through the five bedtime fears small kids actually wrestle with — and meets each one with a scripture from the Fear Less Pillowcase. Read it together at storytime. Tuck them in on the matching pillowcase. Same truth on the page, same truth under their head.

The five fears it meets

Each fear in the book is connected to a verse from the pillowcase — so the book teaches your kids what God's Word says about fear, and the pillowcase keeps it close all night long.

  1. An upset tummy. When the body is afraid before the mind has words for it.
  2. Shadows and sounds. When the dark gets louder.
  3. Worries and intrusive thoughts. When the mind starts spinning out the worst-case version of everything.
  4. Imaginary monsters. When the made-up thing feels just as real as the real thing.
  5. Fear of being alone. When everyone else is asleep and they're sure they're the only one in the world.

For each one, Sleeping FearLess names the fear gently, walks the child through it, and lands on a verse to pray right there in bed.

About the authors

Sleeping FearLess was written together by Bethany Kimsey and her daughter-in-law Chloe Kimsey, with Chloe as the primary illustrator.

Bethany wrote this book in the middle of her own bedtimes — still putting her own young son and daughter to bed every night, walking through the same upset-tummy, what-was-that-noise, please-stay-with-me moments you're walking through too. The verses are the ones she's been praying through years of bedtimes, with kids of every age.

Chloe — a young mom herself, raising two small boys — drew every page, helped shape the words, and brought the warmth of someone who's in the early years right alongside the moms who'll read it.

Two moms in the trenches, with the gospel between them.

The first book in our Big Truths For Little Ears series

Big Truths For Little Ears is what we call this collection of books — picture books designed to help parents teach the big things about God, faith, and what's real, in language and pictures small ears can actually take in. Sleeping FearLess is the first. More are coming. Preorder this one and you'll be the first to hear when the next one launches.

Pairs with the Fear Less Pillowcase

The book and the pillowcase were made for each other:

  • The book teaches your child what God's Word says about fear
  • The pillowcase keeps the same seven scriptures under their head all night
  • Read together at storytime, pray together at lights-out, sleep on the truth till morning

You're not raising fearful kids. You're raising kids who know whose they are. Sleeping FearLess is one more tool to help.

Wonderful book for kids and parents alike!

This is such a wonderful book for kids and parents alike! Parents may not be afraid of the same things that their children are at night when the lights go out, but we sure can have our own "monsters" that seem to creep in, especially at night when all our thoughts are swarming around in our minds after a busy, stressful day. The passages of scripture remind us whose we are and that we, too, can trust in our God and Fear Less!!!
